It’s The Shane van Dyke Show!
No, it’s not a more family friendly remake of The Dick van Dyke Show – but it could’ve been! It’s what I call the festival of Shane van Dyke movies I will watch this weekend! He is the fresh new voice of American cinema with his finger on the pulse on what’s hot right now in the business.
And what is the hottest thing out there now? Re-makes/-boots and pre-/sequels of course! And just like Andy Warhol made art out of a can of tomato soup Shane van Dyke makes art out of movies we’ve already seen.
I have already mentioned his already classic Titanic II, the “not a re-make/-boot or sequel to James Cameron’s underground hit from 1997” because it’s ALL of that blended up into a brand new kind of tomato soup… in a ship-sized can. Somehow it failed to be a prequel.

But the Dyke got so much more to offer! How about Transmorphers: Fall of Man (2009), the sequel to Transmorphers (2007)?
The first movie was a cheap rip off of… Transformers?
There were almost no robots in the first movie (yes, I have seen it and it’s one of the worst movies ever) and no actual… morphing.
But I bet that Shane van Dyke’s sequel is the gloriest of polished turds Michael Bay never squeezed out.
And then there is Shane van Dyke’s Paranormal Entity (2009) and I’m sure it will be full of… activities. Which would be a step up from Paranormal Activity.
Wow. I have a feeling Shane van Dyke must have worked real hard to be able to put his own mark on the cinematic mold, struggled to be able to keep his integrity as a filmmaker, to… No, wait – he is the grandson of Dick van Dyke. Never mind.
I honestly thought he had just rebooted old Dick’s name.

The “chimney” on the Titanic II looks like a terrified muppet.
I think objects/actors that look like terrified muppets is Shane van Dyke’s trademark.
