Catching a Girlfriend – Step 3: Organized and Tidy
This year I have decided to get myself a girlfriend. And I’m using the tips and tricks that movies and TV-shows have taught me over the years. Oh, and I also google phrases like “How to get a girlfriend”.
The Internet is actually a wonderful place to find usable and true information. In my 2012 attempt to get myself a girlfriend it has really helped me out. For instance, today I read a survey that said women preferred a man who is organized and tidy!
I immediately started to search my apartment for signs of untidiness and disorganization. And I sadly found proof of that right away. Who knew the reason for me being single was right there in front of me; my DVD collection.
Now, it hasn’t always been disorganized, years ago all my movies had their own places on the shelves but now I found Big Momma’s House next to Bergman’s Cries and Whispers..
I know, they have no business being next to each other like that!
So, I have decided to get my DVD collection organized and tidy (dusting the shelves will take care of that bit). But before I get started I have to figure out in what order to organize my movies.
I have a couple of options. What do you think, which alternative makes me more attractive to women?
In alphabetical order
This would be a nice way to sort them. The problem is some of my movies are Swedish editions and do I in those cases sort them by their original name, for example Weekend at Bernie’s, or by its translated Swedish name Länge Leve Bernie, which is printed on the cover?
In selected group order
This is also a nice way of doing it. I could have all my Al Pacino movies together, not to mention the ones with Steve Martin.
In genre order
This is how I did it last time. Action, Drama, Comedy, Swedish Movies, TV, Horror, Documentary, Thriller, they all had their special area on the shelves. It was quite nice, because most of the time when I’m about to watch a movie I ask myself: “What am I in the mood for?”. If the answer was, say “Porn”, I knew to look in between “Swedish Movies” and “Documentary”.
In chronological order
The idea of arranging my movies according to the years they were produced, intrigues me. It feels pretentious, but in a good way! I could stand there holding my arm around my new girlfriend, while sipping a glass of Louis Jadot, Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2006, pointing to a movie from the early 1930’s while making a hilarious Prohibition joke.
I’m just afraid when I’m done sorting them this way, my love for 1980’s comedy will become too apparent.. John Candy scares away potential girlfriends, right?
In random order
Well, this is a weird way of organizing things. I guess this way is how my movies are now..
In date of purchase order
This would be fun if I had any idea of when I had bought my movies. It would be interesting to see if my taste has changed over the years or if there are periods when I was buying particular genres or stuff like that. I know I had a period where I bought a bunch of Ingmar Bergman movies, mainly to pimp my DVD collection.. I should really watch one of them someday, just to see what all the fuss was about.
