Sika’s 100 Greatest Movies of All Time! 45. Ed Wood (1994)

September 1, 2011

45. Ed Wood [DVD] (1994)

Plot: A biopic of the life and work of the legendary ‘worst director of all time’, Edward D. Wood Jr. (Johnny Depp), concentrating on the best-known period of his life in the 1950s, when he made Glen or Glenda (1953), Bride of the Monster (1955) and Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959), and focusing on both his transvestism and his touching friendship with the once great but now ageing and unemployed horror star Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau).

When it came to making bad movies, Ed Wood was the best. (tagline)

Fuck no. But, there’s a poster.

Review: Before he married Helena Bonham Carter and started making remakes Tim Burton used to make great movies; with this one being his second best according to me.

I’m NOT going to tell you which one of his other films that will appear further up on this list, but I CAN tell you it’s not Planet of the Apes (2001).

Oscar Count: 2 Wins
Best Makeup (Rick Baker, Ve Neill, Yolanda Toussieng)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Martin Landau)
