Original title: Idi i Smotri

Okay, seriously… Who borrowed my Come and See-DVD? I want it back.

Sure, I don’t want to ever rewatch it again but I like having it at home. Why I don’t want to see the film again?

It’s just too fucking gut-wrenching to watch. Watching it is like taking 2 hours of kicks to the groin. This is a Russian war movie that starts out in hell and then digs its way deeper and finds new layers of hell under it.

Every time you say “it can’t get much worse than this” it starts raining on you.

How gut-wrenching is it? Well, director Elem Klimov tried to hypnotize Aleksey Kravchenko, the boy playing the lead so he wouldn’t remember the horrors of shooting the picture.

But it’s not a snuff or anything like that – it is just a straightforward war movie that will put movies like Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan where they belong: on the Disney channel.

PREVIOUS ON THE LIST: 5. Female Convict Scorpion – Jailhouse 41 (1972)

I saw that movie a few years ago, and it was fantastic.
