Janne the Director’s Favorite Rare Movies Top 100 List #36: Cecil B. DeMented (2000)

John Waters! I love him to death and that is much thanks to me loving revolutions on film. Every movie he makes ends with a revolution. This is one of his generally least liked films but it is my 2nd favorite of his (that was my subtle way of letting you know there will be one more John Waters film in this list later).

You could say this is the closest thing we’ll get to a movie autobiography by Waters (at least covering his life as a filmmaker):

Guerilla filmmaker Cecil B. Demented takes guerilla filmmaking way too literally (just like John Waters!). With an armed film crew of pornstars (just like Traci Lords!) and other sexually starved degenerates (just like Divine and Ricky Lake and pretty much anybody John Waters know!) Cecil kidnaps Hollywood star Honey Whitlock (just like Patricia Hearst!) and forces her to be in their underground movie. And while they’re at it: stop the filming of Forrest Gump 2: Gump Again – with force.

I’d like to point out the great cast while I’m at it: Here we have Stephen Dorff as Demented and a shockingly amazing Melanie Griffith (I usually despise her and her squeaky voice/face) followed by such geniuses as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Alicia Witt, Patricia Hearst (of course!), Eric Roberts, Kevin Nealon, Mink Stole and the less genius Adrian Grenier.

Demented forever!
