Janne the Director’s Favorite Rare Movies Top 100 List #59: The Baby Carriage (1963)

April 6, 2011

janne-the director with the incredible-hulk t-shirt59. The Baby Carriage (1963) Original title: Barnvagnen”

I’m not sure why I have included this on the list. It’s a wonderful movie but you wont be able to find it because here in Sweden we really hate our cinematic legacy.

It’s not available on DVD or VHS even. Hell, even a search on the Internet only gives you this piss poor image:

It’s not like it’s an obscure amateur movie or something, it’s directed by Bo Widerberg – one of Sweden’s FEW directors that nobody would protest if you called them “Masters of Swedish cinema”. AND the cinematographer is ANOTHER Master of Swedish cinema: Jan Troell. In front of the camera is Bo Widerberg’s permanent lead actor Thommy Berggren

Just a few years ago you couldn’t find movies by Ingmar Bergman on DVD unless you IMPORTED THEM FROM ABROAD!?! Well, they fixed that so why can’t they fix The Baby Carriage on DVD? Swedish Television shows it now and then but unannounced in the middle of the day (on a work day of course) and it’s a perfectly fine edition worthy of a DVD-release.

Notice the “SVT1” up in the corner in the clip below? That means that clip is taken from Swedish Television channel 1. Gimme the DVD now damnit!

PREVIOUS ON THE LIST: 60. The Atomic Cafe (1982)
