Janne the Director’s Favorite Rare Movies Top 100 List #65: Crimes of Passion (1984)
65. Crimes of Passion [DVD] (1984)
Is it REALLY 10 years ago Kathleen Turner played Chandler’s dad in Friends? Wow. It feels like it was only yesterday she was the logical choice to voice Jessica Rabbit instead of being too obvious for The Crying Game-jokes.
Luckily her character in Crimes of Passion doesn’t have a penis or she would been a less successful prostitute (or a very successful one?). Not that it matter since she is playing a “happy prostitute” living a double life – a business woman by day and a streetwalker by night. Kind of like Batman except in a wig.
Her life would be perfect if it wasn’t for that psycho preacher stalking her and what’s worse: the psycho that stalks her is Anthony Perkins, THE Psycho.
A fair warning: if you suffer from 80’s phobia this might scare you with it’s cinematography, music, hair, clothes, references, set design, neons, makeup… If you have an 80’s fetish like me you will need Viagra to make it through to the (amazing) end.
This is directed by Ken Russel, a man I can promise you will return very high up this list!
