Top 10 Most Annoying TV Characters [2011 Edition]

April 1, 2011

Sika from the animated comedy blog Lunki and Sika in a tan and a Sika t-shirtThere have been some really annoying characters on the small screen since the dawn of television; like Urkel in Family Matters and the teenage daughter in Grounded for Life. And since they are long gone here’s my top ten list of the current most annoying TV-characters.

Dr Eric Foreman played by Omar Epps10. Foreman, “House. Played by Omar Epps.
These days he just looks tired and uninterested. Maybe that’s why the producers tried to mix it up these last couple of seasons by adding and replacing the Dr House helpers; to cover up the fact that Foreman is extremely boring and annoying.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Dr Walter Bishop in Fringe played by John Noble09. Dr. Walter Bishop, Fringe. Played by John Noble.
He’s wacky, weird, mentally ill and loves his drugs. In small doses he’s quite tolerable. But oftentimes you get too high dose and you have to leave the room; annoyed.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Jennifer Carpenter stars as Debra Morgan in Dexter08. Debra Morgan, Dexter“. Played by Jennifer Carpenter.
I don’t know if it’s her emotional, intense over-acting, her enormous head on a tiny body, or that she was married to the guy who plays her brother Dexter. Most scenes with her makes me think; when oh when will Dexter realize how annoying she is and kill her?

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Tyler-Evans-V07. Tyler Evans, V. Played by Logan Huffman.
Me and Janne the Director agree on this one: If somebody tells him “don’t eat glue” he will eat glue while crying about how nobody understands him.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Chris Colfer as Kurt in Glee06. Kurt, Glee“. Played by Chris Colfer.
I basically could have picked any of the Glee kids, but I let Kurt be the symbol for the most annoying cast since Saved By the Bell. I don’t watch the show anymore, but I’ve heard Josh Groban has made a guest appearance, so I might have to reconsider.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

scrubs logo05. All of them, New “Scrubs.
Yes, all the characters in the new version of Scrubs. I am not even sure if it’s canceled or not since I stopped watching after they transitioned from old Scrubs to new Scrubs. TLC was so right back in 1999: I don’t want no Scrubs.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton in True Blood04. Tara Thornton, True Blood“. Played by Rutina Wesley.
I don’t like to say I hate people, it’s such a bad word. But I hate her. So much.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Sandra Oh as Dr Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy03. Christina Yang, “Grey’s Anatomy. Played by Sandra Oh.
I hate her even more.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds02. Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds. Played by Kirsten Vangsness.
I can’t even put down in words how annoying I think this character is. Is it her constant peppiness, her “love” for Morgan, or the clothes and weird accessories? Maybe it’s the hair and weird glasses? Yeah, maybe.

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika

Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds01. Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.
Yes, it’s remarkable. The most annoying TV-character of all time takes the top two spots since she’s also part of the Criminal Minds spin-off. What is she blackmailing the producers with? I want to know.

Did I miss someone? What do you think?

Hahah I def agree with the Foreman one. You hit it right on the head, he’s definitely one of the many reasons I stopped watching house.

    • April 4, 2011 10:59

Me too – I thought I was the only one. And what’s weird it I’ve liked other things he’s been in. Maybe it’s the direction/ scripting.

  2. April 4, 2011 10:59

02 and 01, the character just struck me as wrong. I have to ask if a “geek” computer type would actually look like her. At least I’ve never met one who did.

She is way too emotional, and accenting her weight by dressing her in those horrible outfits is just wrong. I don’t understand why the writers create such flat, unbelievable characters. I can’t stand the over the top emotions in shows like this.

  3. April 4, 2011 10:59

Personally I really like Foreman, Walter Bishop, and Garcia! But the entire cast of Grey’s Anatomy really pisses me off, so we have that in common 🙂

  4. April 4, 2011 10:59

Interesting list but can you do a list on the most annoying film characters ever? I may not agree that Penelope got on the list but you should also include all the characters from Gossip Girl because I hate them all and that show.

I guess it’s good that we really don’t watch tv. We stick to an occasional Hulu episode of “The Office”.

Urkel was annoying in his day, but at least it was clean, enjoyable family humor. So much of what is on tv these days I would not want to watch with my mother or wife let alone my child.

    • wadingacross permalink

Yeah, TV was so much better back in the days. Unless you were a woman. Or of color. But at least the kids could watch anything! 😉

There is plenty of modern shows that you don’t have to feel guilty about! But true: they are of lower standards. We won’t get something like the Muppet Show again. Even if it was a new Muppet Show.

      • GodsGadfly permalink
        April 4, 2011 10:59

You mean, _The Muppet Show_, which is witty and irreverent and violent? Yep, _The Muppet Show_ is the embodiment of clean, wholesome TV. . . . .
The closest thing to _The Muppet Show_ in years is VeggieTales.

That said, so much TV these days really is just depressing. I recently subscribed to something called a newspaper. Not interested in being depressed by the Sunday news, I went straight to the TV section: all the articles were about “police procedurals”, and all the descriptions that caught my glance were about serial killer movies.

When I was in the hospital in January with an aortic dissection, I flipped through the channels and couldn’t find one thing that wasn’t going to raise my blood pressure in some way: violence here, sex there, sports (which I hate, but even if I didn’t, the point of watching sports is to raise one’s blood pressure), news, . . . . Whatever happened to plain old escapism?

If all of these things on TV bother you so much that they actually put your health at risk . . . wow. I don’t even know what to say to that. Perhaps you need a spiritual advisor or a shrink.

I don’t know why you’re replying to it 2 years later, but that’s a rather rude comment. What’s wrong with pointing out that we should be able to relax when watching television and not have everything be tense and hyper? How does that make me “need a shrink” that I react with normal emotions to things that are emotional? Someone who *doesn’t* get upset about shows like _Criminal Minds_ and _CSI_ that depict gruesome murders, kidnappings, etc., in gory detail is the one who needs to “see a shrink.”
FYI, I have a condition where a systolic of 130 is dangerously high, and when it gets to 150, I can feel every artery in my body. So when I’m in the ER, for example, and there’s no remote, and the TV is on some disturbing channel, it’s not a pleasant experience.

  6. April 4, 2011 10:59

Thank God someone is finally acknowledging how annoying the Glee cast is – and in particular, Kurt. THANK YOU!

Oh, and Josh Groban made 2 guest appearances in the first season. But were short, but both were hilarious.

Pretty good list. If you go back to the seventies, I would say Archie Bunker from All in the Family.

I don’t think All in the Family ever made it to Sweden. All we got was basically M*A*S*H, The Incredible Hulk and How The West Was Won. And out of those I think my money would be on “Hulk” reporter Jack McGee as the most annoying one. (I refuse to say Jamie Farr!!)

  8. April 4, 2011 10:59

Wow…I had to think about this much longer than I should have. Apparently, I don’t watch enough non-reality TV to come up with an answer. But ALL the people from ALL reality TV shows fall into the ‘annoying’ category…

Most annoying?? All the whining celebrities on their reality shows….

    spread the humor.

    Love your post!

  10. April 4, 2011 10:59

I cannot think of any tv characters that irritate me. But the Yoplait commercial where the woman is talking on the phone, and husband is rifling through the fridge looking for the delicious desserts she speaks of drives me nuts for some reason. Especially the part where she says, “Babe, what are you doing?” Lol, ahh… change of channel when that comes on.

      • April 4, 2011 10:59

No its definitely her!! Soo annoying!. I have to admit to loving Yang on Greys tho. she takes grumpy to a whole new level.
My pet hate would be Abbie from NCIS! Enough with the big drinks already (if she really drank that many she would be the size of a house).
All the characters on House ( stopped watching aaaagggees ago) Ditto Scrubs!
And agree re Holly on Brothers and Sisters but now shes lost her mind sorry memory we don’t see much of her YAY!

  17. April 4, 2011 10:59

I am with you on Sandra Oh’s character on GA. And the entire cast of Glee. The Saved By the Bell cast beats them by far though. And I think I managed to get through about 5 minutes of the new Scrubs before I ran away screaming.

    • Sika permalink*
      April 4, 2011 10:59

Yeah, the Saved by the Bell cast really was annoying. There was however one scene in one episode where they wanted to get into a club so they bought fake id’s. Screech had on a long fake beard and pretended to be like seventy. I don’t know why, but that made me laugh so much. The rest of the scenes and the episodes really didn’t appeal to me.

I really can’t complain about the list, mainly because I don’t watch most of those shows. However, the ones I do watch, I would say that you are spot on.
The only complaint/disagreement I have is with Christina Yang. Out of all the characters on that show she is the only one that isn’t constantly an emotional wreck, or has any real ‘balls’. But that’s just my opinion.

  19. April 4, 2011 10:59

I wasn’t entirely with you at first. I mean, Walter Bishop? Come on, he’s the entire reason we watch that show! It can’t be for the science or the relationship drama, although they are entertaining in their own ridiculous ways, but Walter Bishop; now that is a character.

Then I got down to the new cast of Scrubs, and saw that, no, you were just saving the worst for last. I just forced myself to sit through the new season and wholeheartedly agree that they are the worst ever. It’s like the writers saw that Scrubs was originally good because it had flawed but likable characters and figured more flaws would make them more likable. I think out of the entire season there was only one episode I liked.

I really love Walter, its Oliva that gets to me. I just want to scream ‘Love Peter, save the world… Argh!’ but maybe I’m projecting my heros annoyance on her. what do you thing? speaking of Heroes, the entire case was annoying except Hiro and Ando(I didn’t reach the end but I love a good bromance)

  20. April 4, 2011 10:59

I found your blog through Freshly pressed. From what I’ve read, nice blog. However, disagree with Penelope. I love Penelope! But doesn’t different people and tastes make the world go round? :). I do agree with Tyler and Foreman!

  21. April 4, 2011 10:59

This list made me laugh… Actually not so much the list, but your commentary underneath them. I recently was at a writers conference and I was told that the things you hate (people included) are the easiest to write about, because it comes from passion (I assume they mean the intense hatred you feel is the passion). I wonder….what would a show be like if you linked all the characters on your list into one show? NOW that would be awesome.

“What you talkin’ bout Sookie, he sucked you dry!” Tara said with a snarl.
Kurt, who was eves dropping, could help but intervene. “Can we all just hold hands and sing about it?”

I’d also have to add Claire Dunphy from Modern Family, Penny from Big Bang Theory (which would otherwise be a very entertaining show!) and (I hate to say it), Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl, which is one of my favourite shows!

  26. April 4, 2011 10:59

Well I actually like Garcia…and everyone on Glee. But Maybe that’s because I relate to them. I’m a happy, chubby, smart girl and I was a choir nerd in high school. So you would probably be annoyed by me too.

I can agree with many on your list, but Dr. Walter Bishop? He’s one of the best characters to come around in a long time. I can’t get enough of him!

  28. April 4, 2011 10:59

Totally agree with number six and three! Bingo… Scrubs….never got it. Thought it was horrible. Plot, acting the whole thing.

#3…she played in Under the Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane…. love Diane…. the other lady Christina….Not so much. Nothing against here. Just don’t see what made her viable or endeared as an actress. Kind of like Oprah… to me. Mind you, she does many wonderful things for many people and that is so cool…but, so she did a movie or two….then you give her a talk show? Why?

    Anyway…enjoyed your post.

nothing against your choices (though i disagree with you about walter bishop), but for a ‘2011 edition’ this list seems kind of dated. scrubs has been off the air for over a year. josh groban’s last appearance on glee was almost as long ago. but i think you won’t have to worry about tyler on v anymore since i read that he was killed off. and the show is probably getting canceled

He’s just more reserved than the others. Penelope Garcia is awesome too on Criminal Minds. Face it, without her, the entire team would never solve a case and probably be dead by now. You were dead on with new Scrubs though! Horrible! Glee sucks too by the way (all of them).

WOW. A BIG BANG THEORY right away. Your opinions are now invalid. Anyone who chooses to spend their TV time on BIG BANG and the mindless parade of CBS Cop dramas, instead of quality shows like DEXTER is invalidated almost immediately.

  54. April 4, 2011 10:59

Haha, from this list I watch “Dexter,” “Grey’s,” and “Glee,” though the last one not regularly anymore because yes, everyone was annoying me! That said, Kurt probably annoys me the least besides Artie. I really like Dexter’s sister, but I’ve only seen S1 + part of S2. However, Cristina Yang is one of my favorite characters Of All Time.

  56. April 4, 2011 10:59

I saw the heading and I was like, “I’m not going to agree with anything,” because usually whenever people make Most-Annoying-Whatever lists it’s like they hand-picked my favorites out of my brain. But I gotta say, you nailed it.
Dexter is one of my favorite shows, and just LOOKING at Debra and her awkward face irritates me. Not to mention that in some scene where she was about to get hot n’ heavy with her beau, she said, “I want to ball you so bad.” Um, what? Since when does “balling” put anyone in the mood? Shut UP, awkward stick-insect lady! Long story short, I highly agree. Kurt and Foreman and Christina Yang (especially her!) are all also super-irksome.

  57. April 4, 2011 10:59

Haha I agree with most of your top ten, except if you’re going to pick an annoying Glee character, pick Rachel. She is incredibly annoying.

  58. April 4, 2011 10:59

I actually love Garcia and I’m a huge “Gleek”, but other than those two I completely agree. Foreman has always been a boring, miserable man. Christina Yang is SO irritating, but truthfully so is the whole cast. I stopped watching Grey’s once TR Knight left (years ago).

My picks: David Spade’s character on “Rules of Engagement”, Steve McGarrett of “Hawaii Five-O” (reboot), the entire cast of “Full House” “Gossip Girl” “One Tree Hill” AND “Desperate Housewives” haha. Oh and technically they’re not characters, but I want to punch Oprah and Dr.Oz in the face.

    Congrats on being freshly pressed!

    • April 4, 2011 10:59

I think I would have put ALL the characters of Gray’s Anatomy in my Top 10. I watched the first season, and the first half of the second, then they lost me. It seemed that after that all the docs & patients just ran around the hospital like melodramatic mice, jumping sharks on every floor. 😉

  68. April 4, 2011 10:59

Does Bill O’Reilly count as a “TV Character”?

  69. April 4, 2011 10:59

I disagree about Kurt from Glee, but definitely agree with Cristina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t watch enough tv to add my own list of annoying characters or comment on the other ones. Congrats on being FP.

  70. April 4, 2011 10:59

I definitely agree with foreman- he’s barely a character anymore. And the entire cast of the new scrubs. However I think Cristina Yang is the best character in Greys Anatomy and the most annoying one is Meredith Grey herself. Watching her is like watching paint dry but duller.

  71. Amelie permalink
    April 4, 2011 10:59

I agreed with most of these–but the True Blood, that I disagree with the most. I love Tara! Yes she can get a little annoying because she seems to hate the world but she keeps getting handed awful storylines (alcoholic mother, boyfriend gets shot, raped by a vampire etc.) Her character is supposed to be damaged and that makes her more interesting.

Sookie is the one I can’t stand. She is just dumb and constantly getting into trouble and always having to be saved by some vampire. I don’t know if it’s the way Anna Paquin plays her or if it’s the material she is given… but yeah Sookie is definitely the most annoying character. Oh and Arlene, the redheaded waitress at Merlotte’s. She is dumb too.

  72. April 4, 2011 10:59

Nice list. For me, Janice Soprano is the Queen of Annoying TV Characters. As for Tara Thornton, I can’t argue with her inclusion, but I personally would’ve had like half of the rest of the cast on there before her. Sookie and Bill come to mind.

Patrick Dempsey, cute only carries you so far. They think his low whispery voice and sad “look” is enough? EWWWW! No chops, no chops at all.

    • April 4, 2011 10:59

Sadly, yes, Grey’s is still on. I saw the previews for a really silly one they did last week entitled, “Grey’s Anatomy, The Musical”. I had to LOL at that one. I thought it was basically just a music video from the beginning anyway. As soon as it started to get popular, every time one character stared into the eyes of another for more than 5 seconds, they’d queue the Indie songs…

  80. April 4, 2011 10:59

    Walter? Seriously?

Who else should be on your totally wrong list of wrong choices for wrong people who worship wrongness through the almighty Dr Wrongy McWrongpants?

How about you pick some of the other most interesting characters in TV history like
    Walter White from Breaking Bad?

Oh alright, most of your list is pretty darned accurate. But Walter? Not processing that one in any reality. Sticks out like a sore thumb. If anything, we should have more “doses” of Walter, the best thing on that show. Without him, it would have been canceled already.

I admit Glee is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but why pick on one of the most fleshed out characters on the show rather than the more dull cast members like that weird woman the teacher is obsessed over that looks like a casting reject from the Elves portion of the Lord of The Rings films? It may not be true in your case, but I think most people can’t stand Kurt because he doesn’t fit into people’s expectations of gay people’s behaviours and choices.

If I made a list, however, not one person from a dramatic, scripted show would be on it. There are simply far too many reality “stars” to choose from. And for the literalweb folks, I know this is a list of “characters”. I know!I know!

Interesting stuff though. Will be reading you now.

  81. April 4, 2011 10:59

    totally agree with number 4.

  82. April 4, 2011 10:59

That was great. It kinda shocked me seeing that you had Penelope Garcia as the worst (or most annoying)…she kinda keeps the show rolling for me. I see what you mean about Walter too….I think he plays the part great, just think the annoying part comes with the role! Great piece though…loved reading it. I would have to say for me (& it would be on the top of all time & forever) is the cartoon “Rugrats” with Angelica…that is the most annoying voice I have ever heard. Haven’t seen it in forever because my girl is grown now, but it will always stick in my head!

  83. April 4, 2011 10:59

You left off Charlie Sheen’s character on Two and a Half, excuse me, Three Quarters Men. (I think that kid has got to be what, 17 by now?) Now please don’t think that I’m saying Charlie Sheen because of all of his lastest antics. I despised this show long before the circus began. All his character does is bring home women in front of his son, and act snobby to people. Yes, that’s great TV. Isn’t it funny though how art imitates life? Oh and please add that main girl from Grey’s Anatomy who looks like she’s tired, anorexic, and in need of puppy.

The reason that Criminal Minds is a great show and not just another formula acted by cardboard cutouts like Law and Order (name your favorite flavor) is the truly interesting, unusual characters that they have developed. I agree on so many levels.

#7 Tyler Evans of V can be found on the bent, twiggy end of the same wilted family tree branch as Wesley Crusher and Lucas Wolenczak (seaQuest DSV). He’s like the Jar Jar Binks of V. He makes you want to re-edit the whole series, removing Tyler where ever possible, so you can just see Laura Vandervoort periodically alone in her underwear and kissing the air.

I actually liked Sandra Oh years ago when she was on HBO’s Arli$$. Back then she would wear both actual people clothes and smiles. On Grey’s, she just reminds me of co-workers that you can’t even stand to sit next to in a staff meeting.

Before I got to #2 (and #1), I was thinking, “Can I put the whole cast of Criminal Minds at #1?” It makes sense, though. Of all the insufferable, smarmy, self-satisfied, unbelievably intelligent characters on that show, Garcia is by far the hive queen. If the “unsubs” (not-a-sandwiches?) on the show weren’t so cartoonishly awful and reprehensible, I’d find myself rooting for them against this crew.

Don’t forget Garcia’s budded emo hydra-spawn, Abby Sciuto, she of JAG-to-NCIS. Just wrong.

And here I come to Sika’s defense for once since many can’t understand how Foreman in House M.D. is in this list: a character like Foreman was never intended to be dull and sleepy. Glad to see some love for Penelope in your post comments, I love her, especially her style!

I totally agree with Foreman, I don’t understand why he’s still there, he doesn’t even take part in any power play with House anymore, totally useless.

Interesting list, I find Kurt is annoying character, but without him Glee maybe wouldn’t be the same..

Annoying….All of the Desperate Housewives of NJ, D.C. New York…the list goes on and on…. also i think that Jack Bauer from 24 after the 4th season was so annoying that the Chuck Norris jokes would/could still make him look bad to this day… GAH!!

COULDN’T AGREE MORE with No. 1 and 2. I really love the show(s), but despise everything about the Garcia character. I actually find myself changing the channel when she’s on or muting it. Then I’m sometimes kicking myself for missing an important scene or bit of dialog. Hmmm…maybe I should just quit watching it. Pretty sad when one character can ruin an otherwise excellent show.

Big fan of Criminal Minds. I watch it all the time. I CANNOT STAND PENELOPE GARCIA. So I decided to do a google search to see if anyone felt the same way. I typed in “Penelope Garcia is so annoying” and this website was my first hit. I can’t stand her voice, her stupid hairdos and colors, her mushy gobs and gobs of lipstick, her glasses, her stupid fuzzy pens, I hate the way she types, I hate the way she looks at her computer with darting eyes as she’s typing, I hate her stupid clothes, I HATE the ways she carries on her ridiculous banter with every agent every time she gets a phone call – ESPECIALLY with Morgan, I hate her voice, her jewelry and everything else. Ok, I feel better now. Thank you!

Outstanding list. Can’t believe I read some comments about Penelope not deserving to be on this list. I don’t really know how she is as an actress in anything but this show but her character is awful!

  129. June 15, 2011 10:59

Same with someone above me – I typed in ‘garcia criminal minds annoying’ and reached this page. I’ve been watching Criminal Minds for years. I could put up with Garcia in the first four seasons, as she was kinda snarky and weird, and unconventional. Then approaching mid-season 5, I began to hate her. There were some episodes where she just overreacted over some tasks Hotch gave her to do – insisting that she’s the epitome of sugar meadows and spring waterfall so she couldn’t POSSIBLY execute those tasks. >_> Hearing her spiel during those 2 minutes was one of the most painful things to do.
And then there was the time when she, on her own voluntary accord, tried her hardest to fill in JJ’s shoes but Hotch had his reservations about her doing two jobs at once. He relented in the end only to have her yell back into his face halfway through the episode saying she couldn’t do two jobs at once. LOL, is that supposed to be funny/endearing to people? It just makes it annoying. Yet, I still love her scenes with Kevin Lynch. As long as she doesn’t overreact which sets me off, I’m fine with her.

  130. August 29, 2011 10:59

I love Debra and Walter. (Deb is the sister Character from Dexter and Walter is the scientist from FRINGE.) And Christina grew on me. She’s an important part of the show and of Meredith. But…. you were right about 1 and 2. Kirsten really annoys me with her language, her “hey gorgeous” and basically, the way she thinks she is such hot stuff. “Who is brilliant and sexy? MEEE!” GAG order please.

  131. August 31, 2011 10:59

To add: I wish the characters in Criminal Minds would get Penelope Garcia up on sexual harassment charges. Even Reid doesn’t seem to discomfited by her, and that’s just bad script writing as I think a character like that would passively react against her. Is this just a way for them to have a character that is dirty but is politically correct? I’d rather it be a guy. Oh, and about Foreman, he is totally annoying.. and I don’t see why people think he has so much common with House..He is the lack of House.

Just spent the last week watching season 4 of Criminal Minds. How I hate, loath and despise Garcia. Shouldn’t she have died by now? I hate it when she cracks her lame jokes, cries and flirts with Morgan. Please let her character be killed off and have Paget Brewster remain.

I too came here from searching for people that agreed with me about Kirsten’s character on Criminal Minds; Garcia. It seems like the more I dislike her character the worse she gets. Like those flowers on her head for example, those were fine … then they started swapping out flowers for those japanese animal ear things. The piles of makeup on her face and her style of clothing is absurd in a professional setting, but once again it just gets worse once she starts swapping out the style of her glasses every week and wearing these massive and ugly pendants. Then that fluffy pen she holds but never actually uses.
Then she starts making decisions and ordering upgrades even though she is not an Agent. I’m just glad that the camera doesn’t pan down to her shoes. I can’t even begin to imagine what the boss of the show can see in her. I’ve never hated anyone on TV more than I hate her. Do these people actually find this “cool”?

I have few things to saw about Garcia.

    1. Just because Criminal Minds is a show about criminals doesnt mean the cast cant have some personality.

    2. She never wanted to do the job she had to. She was recruted by the FBI because of her hacking abilities.

    3. The rest of the team loves her.

    4. Its refreshing to have a charecter on the show who isnt always so doom and gloom.

    5. If you did a job like that wouldn’t you cry every now and then.

    6. She only flirts with Morgan because Morgan flirts back.

    7. Nobody she works with wants her to change. Hotch even told her.

    8. She was hired to the BAU because she was different. (She applied for the job on home made pink stationary)

    9. If you watched more than one episode of the show youd see that team wouldnt be the same (or as good) without her.

Well, from what I have read, we seem to have not have the same thing in common with characters we like, since you write down the quirky and the ones that might make the viewers laugh the most. I love funny characters cuz I love humor, not that I’m saying you don’t, I mean the comic relief characters seem to annoy you, if they do it to much, did I get that right?

I totally agree with your choices 1 and 2. I like criminal minds, but that character is more than annoying. In fact, I record the show so I can turn off the volume any time she is on the screen. But I think you are missing Abby, from NCIS. She is the reason why I just had to stop seeing that show.

  137. November 29, 2012 10:59

I found this list as I was searching for others who think the Garcia character is stupid. Bingo. Yes, she is annoying, and it’s for all of the reasons others have said — the gimmicky and contrived look is ridiculous…is she meant to be the antithesis of Abby on NCIS? But what is perhaps most irritating and even offensive re Garcia is her interaction with the Derek character — “Baby Girl and all of her hot honey names for him?” And all of the sexual inuendo between them…how professional is that. And yeah, her look, too. It’s silly, like a My Pony little girl. And now that I’m at it…may I say that Reid is a close second for me.

Walter Bishop is number 1. Numero Uno! He is over acting by miles. He needs attention and I am sick of giving him attention. I want to watch Fringe and not Walter. The character is not about normal human being agreed, but it needs to have a life! All he does is faking. Always he is high pitched, even when the situation does not need it. All he is trying to do is grab the attention. I can never tolerate the series because of Walter. But it is so dependent on him that the only option is me not watching it. I wish some other actor took up the job and brings some human side to it. We don’t need attention grabbing highly excited robots.

I’m so happy to know that others out there see Penelope Garcia as the weakest part of Criminal Minds. Vangsness’ overly-saccharine, bush-league approach to the character of Garcia totally destroys each and every episode. And the completely unbelievable sexual banter between Garcia and Morgan has simply got to stop. Each week they’re in the middle of absolutely nightmarish scenes of serial murder, and in the midst of all the bodies that have been raped, stabbed, shot, mutilated, burned (etc., etc.) over the years, they inevitably end up flirting over the phone. Each time Garcia’s character pops on screen I fast forward until her part is over. END GARCIA NOW!!!!!

I’m sorry but it’s obvious that those of you who “disagree with Garcia” are mostly female and probably had some sort of outcast experience in life, therefore are able to relate with the “IDEA” of her character, but if you watch enough film and TV as I have and take time to analyze acting style and mannerisms, you would highly agree with this blogger. Vangsness takes too much away from Garcia due to her horrible delivery and extreme overacting. Her facial expressions are almost always, way more often than not, extremely forced and unnatural. In my critical and educated opinion, due to my detailed study of the art of acting, not to sound anal and snotty, vangsness is just not a good actress at all, she tries way too hard and shows her lack of experience quite transparently. Don’t take this to paint me as some film snob bc I’m not, but im very critical and appreciate skilled actors and actresses and I find it very hard to say that vangsness is anywhere near a skilled actress. The performing artist, specifically those that make her type of money for being on screen, needs to be able to make audiences lose the actor in the character, and she does a poor job at this, which is what hurts her. If she toned down the overacting and made her mannerisms more fluid and genuine, she could be taken more seriously. It’s all about becoming the character instead of playing the character.

I can’t believe how many people actually like Garcia. I could better tolerate her obnoxiousness if they would just write out the flirting dialogue between her and Morgan. There is now way that would be tolerated. And allowing this behavior is doesn’t fit with the characters (namely, Hotchner). It’s overwhelmingly annoying. And I’m with others. I might stop watching the show if it continues.

She’s so sweet and reminds me of myself in the way that’s she has been misunderstood. You can’t get mad at her for that.
