Janne the Director’s Favorite Rare Movies Top 100 List #90: Maniac Cop (1988)
90. Maniac Cop [DVD] (1988)
I watched this during a weekend where I only watched Larry Cohen movies; the Maniac Cop-trilogy and the It Lives-trilogy and I deeply recommend you all to do the same if you have run out of booze.
This was the best of the bunch and I’m sure many will disagree with me. So why don’t you watch them all too and decide for yourself like I did?
We get Bruce Campbell in a pretty serious mode, not even smashing a plate in his own face or cutting of his arm. And if you think Bruce got a great chin you haven’t seen Robert Z’Dar’s cha-ching chin!
What’s great with Larry Cohen (who wrote this, just so you don’t think I don’t know the difference between him and Willam Lustig who directed) is that he is always equally heavy on cheap action as he is on cheap social commentaries.
Think RoboCop but directed by… whoever directed RoboCop 3. But better. And with a bigger chin.
