Original Title: Kaidan nobori ryu

The most important thing first:

What the fuck is THAT?! What’s up with the loin cloth, dude?! That image is actually the first thing we get to see of one of the characters and whenever he pops up we get a lot of this:

Close ups of freaking clinched man-ass. (And you do NOT wanna see what it looks like when he laughs.)

I watched this because I have a thing for Meiko Kaji (who will reappear later in this list)  and she is white knuckle awesome as usual here. The rest of the cast skips around like they just came from the “Mifune’s How to Act on a Caffeine High”-school, but Meiko is above that. She actually gives the other actors the “don’t you know how retarded you look right now?”-look.

This is classic Japanese swordplay action but with some horror movie aesthetics and ghost story vibes… with silly shit thrown in here and there. It looks gorgeous and have plenty of “what the fuck?!”-moments. We have hunchbacks licking the dead, loin clothes, dutch angles, craaaazy lighting… and close ups of clenched man asses. Never forget I warned you about that.

And the first and last battle is cooler than making out with Steve McQueen.

PREVIOUS ON THE LIST: Return of the Streetfighter (1974)
