The Swedish Hobbit

December 3, 2010

Sika from the animated comedy blog Lunki and Sika in a tan and a Sika t-shirtRumors say that one of Sweden’s favorite actors, Mikael Persbrandt has been cast in the 2012 The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit: Part 1.

What character he will play is not yet known, but having seen his previous work I guess it will be some intense, macho tough guy with a short temper. More a Boromir kind of guy than a Frodo, if you know what I mean.

He will join such great actors as Sir Ian McKellen, Leonard Nimoy and Cate Blanchett in what will probably be the blockbuster of the year.

I really hope this will be Mikael Persbrandt’s big international break. That he a couple of years ago was quoted saying “F**k Hollywood, long live the Independent Movie” seems to be long forgotten, but I guess that kind of amnesia is what happens when Hollywood finally calls.
