The Vibrating Moon

the animated comedy series and blog lunki and sika - sika in a family guy angry monkey t-shirtI am back at the house I house-sat in last week; this time in my secondary occupation: Dog Watcher. The dog that was a menace last summer has grown from a puppy into a less biting-shitting-and-peeing-everywhere-kind of dog. He’s pretty cool nowadays.

A couple of nights ago we did however experience something weird. It was in the middle of the night with a full moon shining down on us while I was trying to get him to take a dump on the lawn.

I looked up at the moon and witnessed something scary. The moon was shaking. Literally shaking. It’s hard to explain what it looked like but it freaked me out. I have never seen anything like it before. And when the dog started to bark at the moon I decided to get back inside.

Did anyone else witness the moon vibrating like a maracas or am I loosing my mind?

I just witnessed it tonight for the first time. I literally had hair standing up all over my body. It was the freakiest thing i ever saw. I was sitting outside with my dad and i started to stare at the moon. After a while i thought i saw it shaking so i told my dad and he thought i was kidding but he saw it too. I believe it was either the earth shaking or it couldve been a moonquake which could be caused by multiple things. But it was still very strange to me. Your not crazy haha but we might be. 🙂 No there is a logical explanation for it when i find out i will let you know. There are too many of us that have seen this for us to be crazy.

11/08/2011 full moon. I’m in central France and I just saw the full moon in clear sky with almost no clouds and it was shaking/vibrating heavily and emitting a blue glow that got larger and smaller. It also got brighter and then less bright again a few times. My mother was right beside me and she actually saw it first. I looked it up on the internet and found your page talking about it as well as some others. Apparently this has been going on for at least a couple years and quite a few people must have witnessed it already. Totally crazy phenomenon!

There’s actually a lot of interesting information out there about the true origins of the moon and also about what’s really going on there. George Kavassilas talks about it (www.our-journey-home.com or look on YouTube) and David Icke talks about it extensively in his latest book. There’s also a book called ‘Who Built the Moon?’ by Christopher Knight and Alan Butler. Look it up on Amazon. Very intriguing stuff.

googled “shaking moon” because it is shaking right now.. also bouncing. it looks like it’s fighting some kind of pull and it moves from side to side and gets pulled down. my mom and i were looking at the clouds because they look amazing right now and i said “i think i’m need to go to bed cause the moon looks like it’s moving and she was like i wasn’t going to say anything but i see it too” we’ve been staring at it for the past ten minutes i would really like to know why this is happening.. it is the scariest most fantastic thing i have ever seen. I expected to see a bunch of headlines about the end of the world or something on yahoo! WTF IS THIS CRAP!? if anyone else finds info PLEASE post it! this is amazing.

There is a boring explanation to the moon shaking phenominon. First I would lime to say that I too have witnessed the moon vibrate and shake during a full moon, almost as if it was going to erupt. I was sleeping out on the lawn with my friends one summer when I was young, back in the 90’s. We all saw it.
This is simply an optical illusion caused from the bright foreground of the moon on a dark background. Next time you see a full moon, if you watch it long enough it will usually start to shake. You can snap out of it, and stop / start the shaking (from my experience). This is however, my own personal theory. I may be wrong. I didn’t find anything online to support my theory other than “Pareidolia”. Search it on wiki. This isn’t a great match for my theory but one step closer to explaining how it’s possible.

Interesting, and thanks for your comment.

In my experience, I tried to “snap out of it”, went inside to get my video camera and when I was outside again it was still vibrating as I looked up. It didn’t take any time for it to start vibrating again, is what I’m saying. My attempt to film it failed, since it was too dark outside to film the moon and also get a reference point (something NOT moving) in the frame as well.

I too am one of the elite “MAGIC MOON” club! I saw it hopping, dancing, vibrating & shaking in the sky in South Africa last year during our winter. It was completely AMAZING… also had to run and call the children to observe the phenomenon to make sure there was nothing wrong with my eyes. Would LOVE to find an explanation for it. Until then, I’ll just enjoy the magic!

I just saw this last night, in NJ 8/2/12. I was outside looking at the full moon in a field down the street. I was grounding myself and all of the sudden the moon started to shake & bounce. I thought it was my Rx eye glasses or from focusing too long so i turned around. When I looked up again, there it was, bouncing and shaking. Pretty Amazing. At that very moment I felt enlightened. I wonder if this is something that is ‘normal’?? I’ve never seen it before. It was really amazing.

I have seen it on two occasions, both times the moon was full. It dances, vibrates, oscillates up and down and from side to side. Literally looks as though someone has placed the moon there and it could go anywhere. My partner was sitting with me both times and saw what I saw. I am looking for information on this topic but for once, the information available is scarce. It is an amazing thing to see.

Hi all – I’m in NW Pennsylvania…just saw exactly what you’re all describing. We have a full moon tonight…they said on the news that it’s a “super” moon this month. I was out watching the stars with my daughter & as the moon was rising it looked like it was shaking.& bouncing around…never seen anything like it! My kids didn’t see it & said…mom, you’re hallucinating! It happened when it was lower in the sky just coming over the trees…seems to have stopped now that it’s higher in the sky…very cool experience even though my kids think I’m nuts!

Omg. My mom and I saw it too. It was the craziest thing. We were out having a smoke and saw big clouds. The moon was behind it creating a silver lining on top. It kept rising and finally was completely visible. We looked up again and I said, “Whoa now it looks like it’s shaking and oscillating.” My mom said, “Holy shit. You see it too?” The best way I could describe it was that it looked like a “Boo” from Mario how it moved. My mom immediately called the local news channel and left a message since it was midnight. I’ve been researching lunar activity, but I’m convinced it was a phenomenon. I don’t know whether to be amazed or scared! I’m so glad you all saw it too!!! :0

When you are staring at the moon or any object for a given period of time your brain can play some serious tricks on you . Look at it through a tree line and the longer you stare, your peripheral vision will start to add and take away auras in the sky line. Another possibility of why the moon may appear to shake is the experience of vertigo. Yet still, keep in mind as well all the planets and their satellites have ranges of gravity. The interplay of them as they move in their orbits could very well be visible if one fixes their sight on the moon. I would use the idea of magnets. Depending on their size and makeup they can have strong or weak attraction to objects around them. as they pass within range of one another they give a little tug. Unlike magnetism, the force of gravity is not limited to metallic elements. It is possible you are witnessing with the naked eye the typically unoticed pull of other celestial bodies on each other as they move along their orbits.

He very quickly said DAD, the moon is shaking! I told him ” I see it too son, let get a point of reference. ” so we used the gable end of the house and a tree about 30 feet to the right of the gable, so we could see to NON moving grounded points of references. The Moon was still shaking in a left to right at a very high rate, and then started to rotate counter clockwise as it was shaking. This all lasted about 2 minutes, before a Very dark cloud moved over the moon blotting it out of site. Mind you the clouds we’re very thin and very far apart , this one was as out of place as the strange ” shaking moon”.

Just saw this tonight on my walk home from work. A live in rural England, and I noticed it while it was a particularly dark part of the walk. My best guess is it’s the autokinetic effect: basically if you stare at a point of light on a dark background it will start to appear to shake around because your eye has nothing else to compare its position to. It’s commonly seen when observing solitary stars.

It freaked me out when I saw the moon shake whilst I was living in NZ. I then used my optical background to get to the bottom of it. In my case the moon was be behind dappled clouds. Their slow movement across the moon causes a focus/fixation issue which your eyes try to resolve. They do this by twitching very quickly to resolve the depth of field disparity…which would only work at close range. This results it the fixation target, the moon, appearing to vibrate pretty quickly and consistently. If you’ve noticed it happen on a clear night, I’d suggest your ocular motor muscles have randomly gone in to spasm. Hope this helps. Still a freakin’ weird experience though!

It’s a longtime ago but I have seen the moon bounce too. I was with 2 others who also saw it. Sat on top of a temple at Tikal in Guatemala when I was travelling and no I wasn’t taking anything! Same as you full moon in the middle of the night and the moon vibrated or bounced! Never seen or heard anything like it before or after until I read your post!

I’ve always been very obsessed with the moon and watch it as regularly as I can – it’s such a fascinating, weird thing. Not so long ago, I too saw it shaking. I was exiting the car, about to head inside my home – when I looked up and saw a full-yellow-moon. After staring at it for a few seconds, it began to shake like someone with Parkinson’s Disease was holding it on a stick. I wasn’t scared though, just fascinated. I’ve tried staring at it for a while since, hoping it will shake – but it doesn’t always happen.

I promise you that the same thing happened to me. I was just chillin on my roof stargazing, and I looked at the moon and it was vibrating, and my dog started barking at the sky from the front yard. I immediately googled it and I saw nothing about it… I want answers

I just saw the same thing tonight. And one of our lightbulbs exploded earlier today. The moon had a weird blue halo around it and was bouncing up and down and sliding to the right. Not on any drugs. 8-5-17

saw it at Portnoo beach, Donegal on 9th Aug 2017. Thought i was getting Parkinsons first but got my daughter to describe the moon to me and she said “well it looks like it has a terrible shake”. Twas a full moon that night.

I saw this happen last night 9/6/17. I was walking the dog and thought the shaking was a result of me bouncing as I walked. I stopped and it was still vibrating or shaking. I watched for awhile then got my son to verify it, which he did. We were standing there watching and noticed the blue outer edge. It was pretty wild.

    Oh, my, God.
Me and my friend saw this like 7-8 years ago and since then to everyone that I speak about this, thinks I am crazy.
We saw the moon shaking as well!
My mind is only there everytime I see the moon… creepy

Just curious, how many witnesses are veterans? I and another vet could see the phenomenon, the non vet standing next to us couldn’t see it.
