Silver Bullets and Bitch Slaps

June 16, 2010

I just read Sika’s blog post about why he didn’t like The Wolfman remake. I have seen “The Wolfman” too. Not together with Sika might I add.

And it wasn’t any good at all and not because of Sika’s 2nd theory because that’s just absurd (but point taken for trying to sound British – everybody isn’t as fluid at it as we are).

But I would like to add a 4th theory as a reason for not liking it:

I’m not the greatest fan of the original Wolfman but a huge fan of classic Universal monsters. In this update the Werewolf rips people to pieces and sprinkles the sets with bodypart-confetti like it was Mardi Gras gone wrong. I lost count on how many got bit to death in the first attack alone! So if he’s that productive in biting people… shouldn’t there be an assload of wolfmen/women/kids roaming the streets at full moon? Because that’s how you catch the bad case of dog breath, right?

And in the original (I guess this is another theory) it was a personal story about one man’s problems with body hair. Here it’s a father/son-conflict that could’ve been interesting but never gets taken care of because we are served with two CGI-muppets fighting instead.

And why the hell doesn’t normal bullets hurt the wolfman? I know… Only silver bullets can KILL a werewolf but why doesn’t it hurt? At one point he gets bitchslapped and that seemed to hurt.

So… does that mean silver bullets AND bitch slaps is their weak spots?

    Hey.

I belive you are wrong when you say that there should be an ass load of wolfmen, The fact is that you have to survive the bit from the werewolf to become one. And as you say you’r self “Werewolf rips people to pieces and sprinkles the sets with bodypart-confetti like it was Mardi Gras gone wrong”

So if you end up like confetti when you are attacked you will probably not have the time it takes to turn in to a werewolf.

Yeah, but it’s the amount of people getting bit that makes it weird. Feels odd to me that every bite kills… it’s not like the wolfmen in this movie were focused enough to make sure that they didn’t leave any wounded left.

      It sadly is…

BUT! I kinda dug the look of it most of the time. Nice colors, always foggy and stuff like that. If they just removed the pale “characters” out of the shots it would’ve been an awesome screensaver.
