The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Bootleg Look
The marketing stunt made by SONY for the release of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on DVD seems to have made fans confused.
As a throwback to the hacker theme in the movie SONY made the disc look like a pirated bootleg copy. There are numerous reports of buyers returning the movie because of it.
Rental companies and retail stores have started to post a warning on their sites to clarify the issue; with statements like: “Don’t worry, this is how it’s supposed to look.”
Hmm, I notice the movie seems to be burned on SONY DVD-R discs.. Maybe that’s the real reason people are sending them back, because as we all know, they suck.
Perhaps it’s time to issue a new warning? I would love it if it read:
“Yes, because SONY produced this movie, they made the DVD release look as if it had been bootlegged on SONY DVD-R’s. But don’t worry, the discs are actually Verbatim.”
