What is Sweden? Part Eight – The Final Countdown
It happened on Saturday. 24 years after its release I watched Swedish Rock Band Europe perform The Final Countdown live. And it was weirdly exciting.
I’ve never been a devoted fan, sure I’ve liked their songs but never bought the albums, but it did feel great to be there and witness the performance of what has become somewhat of a Swedish National Anthem. Maybe I’m exaggerating but The Final Countdown is definitely one of the best known song in Sweden. It’s right up there with ABBA Waterloo, Roxette It Must Have Been Love and Jojje Wadenius Kalles Klätterträd.
And any song that is frequently used as backgrounds for magic shows must be great, right? And if the magician is George “Gob” Bluth II from one of the greatest sitcoms ever made? Well, it’s not just great, it is pure magic. Here’s a GOB tribute with stuff from Arrested Development to the tune of The Final Countdown.
