DVD Review: G-Force

January 28, 2010

The Disney movie G-Force is about a team of American special agents out to save the world, when the FBI suddenly decides to shut down their operation. But G-Force who consists of three guinea pigs, one mole and a fly refuse to give up. Their fearless leader Darwin (voiced by Sam Rockwell), weapons expert Blaster (voiced by Tracy Morgan), martial arts expert Juarez (voiced by Penelope Cruz), computer expert Speckles (voiced by Nicolas Cage), and reconnaissance fly Mooch, depart on a big adventure trying to stop diabolical millionaire (Bill Nighy) who plan on conquering the world with the assistance of household appliances.

The movie has gotten mixed reviews in newspapers, magazines and all around the Internet. And I totally understand why. The movie is rated G and the reviewers that either likes or dislikes this movie is not in that age group. As a reviewer it’s a total guess if the G audience will like it, as it is for the movie company. I’m also far from being in the target group for this movie, so how can I make a fair review?

I could write down my personal opinion and say that I think it’s weird how actors (the real live ones) in these kind of movies never tend to be funny and that the clumsy, falling and hurt yourself-kind of humor isn’t funny anymore. Not since Chris Farley.

I could also write that even though there are some awesome CGI, spectacular stunts, and excellent voice actors, G-Force is a movie that I’ll soon forget.

But why write that? Why be so harsh since I’m not even part of the target group? Seems unfair don’t it? So instead I called all my friends that are parents and asked them what their kids thought of G-Force. I even read a lot of forums to get an idea. And as a conclusion from this “survey” I can say that it seems that the target group G will like this movie. It could however be a little to exciting for the littlest once, and not entertaining enough for the adults. And that’s a review I can agree on.

So put Bethany, 11, and Charlie, 7 in front of the TV and it will be all right. And parents, while they are doing that you have eighty-five minutes of alone time to spend, as you seem fit. Use the time wisely. Disney is continuing making great kids movies and from what I understand they don’t want their target group to decrease in numbers. Get it?

Phew, ending with a nice nod to the Disney Corporation and helping them out. Excellent. Because I sure don’t want it to end like last time. Remember?
