What is Sweden? Part Six – The Proudness of the Swedes
In Sweden we are really proud of everything Swedish, especially when Swedes or Swedish things appear internationally. Whether it’s ABBA or IKEA, Volvo or SAAB; we tend to point out to everyone that they are Swedish as often as we can.
We are truly proud of athletes like Annika Sorenstam, Bjorn Borg and Peter Forsberg. Actors like Peter Stormare, Stellan Skarsgard, his son Alexander, Dolph Lundgren and Malin Akerman. And we are proud of Malin even though she hasn’t lived in Sweden since she was a kid. We reckon if she’s born here, she’s Swedish. And that means we’re proud of her.
We are even proud of the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show, even though he sounds nothing like us and quite frankly seems a little retarded.
In Sweden quotes like these are common: “Hey, did you see that vase that appeared in yesterday’s re-run of Friends? It was made by a Swedish designer. Or “Hey, they mentioned Ace of Base in an episode of Ugly Betty! Yeah! They are Swedish”
We also tend to be proud of the almost-Swedes. For example, Tiger Woods and Will Ferrell are both married to Swedish women, making them almost-Swedes. And because of that we are proud of them. Well, Will Ferrell anyway.
I just hope this trend will sustain when me and Lunki makes it big internationally. I don’t want the Swedish people to be like: “Lunki and Sika..? Eeh no, I think they are Finnish..

Speaking of being proud about all things Swedish: how about using ÅÄÖ, Sika? “Bjorn Borg”… Who’s that?
I’m not ashamed of them if that’s what you think. I just had to write it like that since Bjorn Borg IS Björn Borgs international name.
Oh, that would not happen. I mean, we have actually been proud of Anna Anka. Our proudness will survive anything.
That’s true Irtsa. She IS Swedish. Thanks for the reinsurance!
You’re quite welcome.
